As always the Cradams (Crook-adams) family have been mega busy over the festive season. Between December 20th and December 30th we played hosts to THREE parties:
1. Squish’s 3rd birthday party
Squish’s birthday was fab. The night before the big day, once he had drifted off to sleep, we decorated the whole Livingroom and his bedroom door and then placed a trail of little presents from his room down to the Livingroom.
For the first time in the history of the Cradams, the parents awoke before said Squish and like little children we opened the child gate to his room and snuck downstairs to the Livingroom giant party poppers and cameras at the ready. 20 minutes we waited for him to get up before we heard him oooo-ing and arrrrrr-ing his way down the apples and pears. This EPIC reaction made it all worth it:In the day we went to Legoland which was brilliant for the price (I’d advise you to go midweek as it’s nice and quiet) although we wished we had allowed more time to stay and play. The legoland shop is AMAZING… but I can’t help shuddering at the sight of some of the lego packs as some are £200+ …insane! (WANT WANT WANT). Anyway in the evening we just had close family around for what was meant to be a small gathering… but a few nibbles, a homemade cake, several party bags and many balloons later it ended up turning into more of a party. This was
Now, apologies to those who are sick to the back teeth of seeing this cake but I am so proud of it. I rarely bake, mainly because I make such a mess in the kitchen it causes @yawnofthedad to hyperventilate but this is the first big cake I have ever made. It took me AGES, there was an anger management pro-lapse mid bake involving a wooden spoon (we won’t speak of that) and I even managed to get cake mix on the ceiling BUT… here she is , in all her rainbow glory…
As he does every year, Squish got spoilt rotten by his family and we couldn’t feel more grateful. It never ceases to astound me how doted on one lucky little boy could be. So massive thank-you’s again for all his cards and presents…. even the noisy ones that have sirens and run over our feet and the ones with little bits we spend hours searching for and putting away only to stand on bare-footed first thing in the morning. THANK YOU! (no seriously, we are very grateful)
2. Christmas evening
Onto party number 2: Before I start to bore you with out Christmas Evening antics I wanted to tell you about the day’s epic fail. On Christmas day, my dad, my sister, my baby niece and I all headed off to the cemetery to pay our respects to my Nan who sadly passed away a few months ago. On my way back to the car whilst holding my niece, my dad (being my dad) told us to go and wipe our feet on the grass as it was quite muddy. Unfortunately I didn’t realise I was on a slant, slipped and before I knew it I was lying on back with a wet muddy arse, coat, cardigan and tights. At least I wasn’t wearing my new Christmas outfit… oh wait. Luckily my niece was cushioned by my jelly belly and not a spot of mud touched her furry white Christmas coat *phew*. So after that drama (and a change of clothes) we rushed off to have Christmas dinner at the Crooks and then swiftly headed back to our house for some last minute prep for the party.
As any good, reputable mother would, I bought all the food from Iceland. I think I my baking career peaked with the birthday cake so that’s it for me now. Some of the food was alright, some of it was questionable but for the price one mustn’t grumble. Plus I figured everyone would be stuffed after Christmas dinner so I didn’t want to tempt them with anything too delicious. After the computer blue screened us (I have this affect on electrical devices) karaoke was off the agenda. So out came a good old fashioned pub quiz. ‘Old fashioned’ being the operative phrase as you would not have been able to answer any of these questions unless you were born right after the dinosaurs had become extinct. I’m useless at the best of times but add a couple of glasses of red to the mix and you may as well have an empty chair on your team. It was fun though and induced a bit of family banter/rivalry… no brawls but we can put that on the list for next year.
So here are a few of our picture highlights from Christmas 2012:
3. New Years Eve
Last but not least, the more drunken of the 3 parties: New Years Eve. Now, every NYE my mum and dad have
been forced into kindly offered to have Squish overnight so we can nurse our hangovers for a while the next day… naturally we get a bit giddy with the alcohol. There were sparklers, far too much food, even more drink, oodles of champers and great company. We even managed to recycle a few things from Squish’s birthday party! I didn’t manage to take that many pictures unfortunately .. well none that my friends would forgive me for if I did post but here a few that I can share…
It’s safe to say we had an bloody good Festive Birthday fun time. *sigh*.
All that’s left to do now is wish my readers a Happy New Year. It’s back to the grindstone… another year with these two and I couldn’t be happier. (honest!!)
